Extra-curricular Activities

Extra-curricular activities (or in some schools ‘study support’) is seen as any activity that takes place outside normal school lessons. At Shenley Brook End School, staff offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities. These activities are provided to help students enhance their learning of curriculum areas, to support the study that takes place or to provide new activities that they have never tried before. These can range from coursework support to homework clubs, from design clubs to ICT clubs, from puzzle clubs to sport and music. Hopefully there is something for everyone.

Curriculum Enrichment

Traditional extra-curricular activities such as sport, chess, drama, music, sewing and other clubs and societies.

Curriculum Enhancement

Study opportunities provided before and after school and during breaks in the school day such as homework clubs, extra revision classes and extra after-school tuition. Activities may be subject specific eg English homework club, or non-specific, such as help with target setting, study skills, coursework, and examination revision.

Why extra-curricular activities?

Research has shown that students who regularly participate in activities improve attainment of the subjects they study at Key Stage 3 and GCSE. It also showed an improved attitude and attendance at school. The extra-curricular timetables are available to download as PDF files and show activities that are running throughout the year; the year is split into six sections that reflect each half term (A-F) as shown on the term dates. Extra-curricular timetables are also available for students to look at on the VLE or by clicking the links below, please note the PE extra-curricular timetable is separate as it changes each half term due to light and weather conditions etc.
